The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is pleased to announce its Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Camp at the Sondheim was awarded a grant to increase the accessibility of the theater camp for youth across Southeast Iowa.
The $10,000 grant provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts, will provide the funding for up to 75 youth, ages, 8 - 14 years, to attend the theater camp at no cost July 15 - 20.

- The 2019 Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Camp at the Sondheim is July 15 - 20. The all camper performance is July 20 at 3 p.m.
- NEW: Camp attendees will be divided into two sessions.

The camp will be directed by Allen Chapman, Anne Chapman will be choreography director, Vicki Jacobsen will be the music director and Lynn Jacobsen will be the stage director.
Allen Chapman, Director, Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Theater Camp at the Sondheim
Allen Chapman has taught vocal music at every level, elementary through college, in a remarkable career spanning more than four decades. Allen's choirs appeared on twelve divisional and national MENC and ACDA convention programs. He and his late wife, Sandra, directed ten concert tours to Europe. His show choirs were competition finalists and champions across the Midwest and he was a co-founder of the Iowa Show Choir Camp.
Chapman was name one of the Top 12 Music Educators in Iowa by MENC, he and Sandra were given the prestigious McCowen Award by ICDA, and Show Choir Nationals established the Allen and Sandra Chapman Excellence in Education Award which is presented annually during their competition at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Most recently, Allen was recognized by the Iowa High School Music Association with the National Federation Award of Merit. The award recognizes an individual who has made the significant contributions to music education at the local, state, and national levels.
Professionally, Chapman has served on the IHSMA committee that founded the State Show Choir Competition, been the All-State Chorus Chair, and served for ten years as National ACDA Repertoire and Standards Chair. He continues to maintain an active schedule as a director, clinician and adjudicator nationwide.
Anne Chapman, Choreography Director, Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Theater Camp at the Sondheim
Anne Chapman has been singing since birth and dancing since she could walk. It was the natural profession of development growing up in the home of music educators. By middle school, she was earning honors as a vocalist and dancer and by high school, she was teaching at the dance studio, choreographing show choirs and singing at National ACDA Conventions. Through her college years at Baylor University, Anne remained in active choral and dance endeavors while earning a degree in Education.
Anne taught second grade in Texas and kindergarten in Iowa but requests for her expertise as dance instructor, dance team coach, musical and show choir choreographer finally resulted in her transitioning from classroom educator to performance educator.
Anne's studio pupils have been awarded regional and national honors, her dance teams have been crowned State Champions, her choirs consistently rank at the highest levels in competition and her skill as an adjudicator and clinician have provided her with numerous opportunities to serve as a show choir camp choreographer, guest speaker at conventions and symposiums and adjudicate competitions nationwide. Anne is a consummate performance educator; committed to the Art, yet devoted to the learning that occurs through the Art. Anne Chapman; singing and dancing since birth, educating and inspiring young performers for a lifetime.
Vicki Jacobsen, Music Director, Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Theater Camp at the Sondheim
Befor her retirement in June, 2010, Vicki Jacobsen spent 32 years as Vocal Music Director of Danville Community Schools in Danville, Iowa. She was the K-12 music instructor and established a "swing choir" her first year in the system. She also directed a concert choir, women's choir, and men's choir.
Her show choir program received state-wide recognition for its innovative style and energy and were named one of the top small school music programs in the state. Garnering many awards at competitions through the state, they were finalists at Ft. Madison, Davenport, Southeast Polk, Waukee, Benton Community, Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Cedar Rapids Washington, Quincy, Illinois, and FAME Branson.
Vicki has been in demand as a show choir adjudicator, judging competitions at Troy, Missouri, West Delaware, Cedar Rapids Washington, Linn-Mar, Keokuk, Central Lee and West Branch.
Lynn Jacobsen, Stage Director, Evelyn Gamrath's Summer Theater Camp at the Sondheim
Lynn Jacobsen, the speech and drama director at Danville High School. Lynn, an Iowa High School Speech Hall of Fame member, has led Danville students to the All-State Speech Festival every year for the last 43 years. He was recently named the 2014 Iowa Educator of the Year for the National Federation of High School Educational Theatre Association.
Lynn and Vicki direct the school's annual fall musical and lead The Southeast Iowa Players, a non-profit musical theatre troupe. The troupe performs locally throughout the year and produces a musical in the summer. Together, with Allan Chapman of Ft. Madison, they started the Iowa Show Choir Camp in 1988 and for over 25 years provided many students with a week-long show choir experience.
Vicki and Lynn have a daughter, Tori, a Western Illinois University graduate in theatre and dance. Tori is living her dream as she is now employed by Walt Disney World. Music Theatre enthusiasts, the family enjoys traveling to New York City every summer to see the latest Broadway shows. They are also life-long Disney fans with over 100 trips to visit the "Mouse!"
