They Called It Rock celebrates legendary classic rock as it has never been seen before through the iconic songs of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, David Bowie, Santana, Elton John and others set ablaze through the passion of 8 virtuosic dancers and two power chord ripping rock musicians, presented against a vibrant backdrop of video imagery.
The time is 1978 in a country beyond our borders where freedom is a dream and independent expression is a threat to "the system." Rock music, defiant and dangerous, slips through the ideological barrier via the airwaves. A young man listening to his shortwave radio hears of a world unaffected by repression and is lifted out of bleak surroundings into a very different reality. He realizes that freedom has many facets, and no matter how he ultimately decides to live his life, it is not his individual choice that matters, but that he has the freedom to choose at all.
They Called It Rock is legendary music in motion visualized live on stage as the songs might have played on MTV, had music television existed in the 1970s. It's a journey through time, an homage to an era and a reminder that the dream of freedom lives on.
